Nice list, I didn't realize there were so many!
I also didn't realize someone else has decided to pick up on the idea of "The Spear of Destiny".

Thanks for putting this up ;)

EDIT: I found a link to the old Spear of Destiny (i) game itself: http://www.theindyexperience.com/ , but the website appears to be down.  I don't know if it has been down for a while, or if it no longer exists, I just know that it is down.  More specifically, I found on other sources that the more exact location is http://www.theindyexperience.com/fan_game_sod.shtml
The really annoying part to this whole thing is that I swear I had a copy of the demo of this game somewhere on my hard drive, but I'm not sure I have it anymore.  I'd also like to add that one of the people who worked on the game apparently goes by the alias "Spoon_One" or "TwqPier".  He is apparently on the theraider.net's forum, The Raven, but I don't know if he is active anymore...
That's all I could find out, at any rate.

me too, i had the SoD Demo sometime back, never got it to run on my computer, so i may well have deleted it  :o
will take a look again, though.

another thing; FoAII, i.e. amberfisharts HAD released a demo, two of them actually... a techdemo demonstrating their routing (the pathes that indys sprite uses on the backgrounds, both on a top down-view and in normal graphics) and they released a kind of running demo where you could navigate indy (and sophia on his heels) through some mini-mace...

pity is, eventhough i know i had both of them, i seem to NOT have them anymore; and theyre nowhere to be found on the net anymore :(

Thanks for your help snaker8 & fandango!

I added a cached page link to the SoD site from 2003 (with working screenshots!)

Twq has been active in our forums some years ago, too If we won't be able to find a copy of the game somewhere around here, maybe I can contact him directly.

As for the FoA2 demos: If anyone finds an old demo, please let me know and we'll be happy to host it for all those who were searching too :)

hey, cool, FoAII has been shifted to "active" - sweet!
(then again, that note you linked is as old as the static page itself... but then... i doubt the zöllers would keep the site if they didnt still intend to publish someday... so the mere existince of the page is enough evidence for me that FoAII is NOT dead)

Yep, I still believe in the project :) But they have been also working on their engine in the meantime so I guess the project is not dead at all.

The announcement regarding the cancellation of LucasFan's Raiders of the Lost Ark project was done in such a cryptic way, I am not sure it is accurate to list it as dead or cancelled. The announcement was made when KQ9.org received their C&D letter from Vivendi, LucasFan closed the website fearing the same thing could happen to the project. Their website is still online 3 years after the announcement was made, if the project was cancelled the website would surely have disappeared completly by now. The message on the website is also unclear: "Recent events have forced us to shut down our web appearance." Shutting down their web appearance not the project...

I don't know what LucasFan was planning, but the entire thing successfully reached the same state as Big Foot or Elvis, nobody has concrete proofs but everyone believes or wants to believe it's still alive.

Post by: fandango on November 05, 2008, 09:33:09 AM
thats exactly my sentiment... i, too, think, the website would have been shut down completely, and they would have had a different announcement... they really NEVER said "we shut down the efforts for the game"... actually, you could translate the things they DID say as "sorry, but we're going underground now"

You guys are great, thanks for all the files and information!

I didn't give up the LucanFan game completely too but as long as we don't have any proof for a continuing development I think it's adequate to classify it as "Dead (apparently)" ;)

Hi, I'm the leader of Juggernaut Games (Indiana Jones and the Curse of the Pharos). I'm sorry to inform everyone, but our project is as of December 18, canceled. My programmer left due to personal reasons. We may begin production again in 2 years. If anyone here would like to help me with the project, it can once again begin production right away. Thanks everyone.

One last word. Show us your support by showing other fan projects your support. Please remain loyal to everyone here at Barnettcollege.com and please check out Indiana Jones and the Crown of Solomon.

Hey, I was just exploring various Indy game websites, and I found that the address for Thunder of the Orient has been removed.  Perhaps it is cancelled, or has moved, or what?
If you could update it, that would be great.

Hey, I'm the project leader of Curse of the Pharaoh. I'm sad to say that it doesn't look like Curse of the Pharaoh is ever going to happen (at least not for now). Anyway, there's not all bad news. I don't know if any one's ever played the game Indiana Jones in the Revenge of the Ancients. We're developing a create your own adventure for the ipod based on this game. For more information, visit the forums of our site. (It's going to be under the Curse of the Pharaoh section). Anyway, you should add it to the list.

No real news I'm afraid, the website is still in the pipeline. I hope to do some final major updates to the current website in February.

Miez has a new job I believe and so it's keeping him quite busy (and probably tired) lately. I'm moving into my own flat in a fortnight or so, which means I'm packing and kind of out of action too. But there will be updates in due course im sure :)

Oh yeah, I have a question regarding it...
If I'm not mistaken, you used SLUDGE for the game engine.  What exactly is the difference of creating games with SLUDGE versus using Adventure Game Studio?
Just wondering.
Title: Re: List of Indiana Jones Fan Adventures
Post by: Lando on February 19, 2009, 03:33:57 PM
Well, these two are just different engines with different options and possibilities. Why some 3 D games using the Quake engine and others the Unreal engine? It's about the same... But maybe some coder can provide some more detailles information
Title: Re: List of Indiana Jones Fan Adventures
Post by: Twq on February 26, 2009, 09:11:11 AM
Lando said it all. Though I think I wouldn't recommend SLUDGE, it seems outdated and not so nice. Perhaps using flash and actionscript is a great option. I never worked with AGS, but actionscript can do *anything*
Title: Re: List of Indiana Jones Fan Adventures
Post by: Snaker8 on February 27, 2009, 01:43:45 AM
True, I have slightly used ActionScript/Flash.
Honestly, for exclusively doing adventure games, AGS is much friendlier than Flash.
Or at least that is my opinion.

In case anyone is interested, I have this old Indy fan game (entitled "Indiana Jones und das erbe der zeit" that my brother once downloaded years ago. I would play it if not for the fact that it's in German. If anyone here would like to take a look, either email me (Juggernautgames@gmail.com) or contact me through some other means. I would be very interested to be able to play the game. Also, don't forget to check out our updated site Stolovitz.com. Things are going slowly, but we MAY  ;) be getting some work done.

One last thing. I've googled the fan game, but I can't find it listed anywhere. If anyone can get any information, let me know.

now, "erbe der zeit" would be quite interesting... any means of uploading it someplace?
Here it is (demo is in german only):

yay, I managed to run 'erbe der Zeit' in DOS Box 0.72. It runs at a very bad framerate (could be my PC, but I doubt it...) and enjoyed the cool soundeffects (background sound). The indysprite and the GUI is ripped from Fate of Atlantis but the 3 Backgrounds are new but not that great. There is not much to do in the demo... met an unfriendly guy at the airport and visited some cliffs with old stones... that's it, but was nice to see some more Indy action, even though it looked like slomo with the bad framerate... :)

Dude, you missed half of the demo (as far as UI can tell). In the desert-screen (the screen you start in, with the city in the background and the cliffs at the left) you can exit the screen to the RIGHT where you get to a camp and a temple (don´t forget to pick up the  stick before you go into the temple). In the temple you have to lite up a few torches, clear some ruble, search some tunnels.  I am stuckhere (or the demo is has no "real" ending). What do I do with this green shiny crystal and the mummy-puppet I got from the dude at the air-port?

Awesome news! CoS is back up! Yesterday, I got this message from Calle himself.

"Hi all members,

We are trying to complete the game but can't get hold of our animation artist. If anyone here knows how to make good animations, please contact me on the forum.

Regards,
Calle - The Indiana Jones and the Crown of Solomon Team."

He's even been somewhat active on the forums. His first post reads

"Well, be doing some small things with the game this year but works take all my time, also when I started this project I was a student but since I am not anymore I simply had to much to do (being stuck on a puzzle didn't help either) . However all my friends and relatives have talked me back into finish this game, so this is my main priority now. I won't disappear again.

EDIT: I will be updating the site a bit also."

Also, he later posted that he found an animator, but the animator can't start work until September. Can anyone here help out with that? The sooner this game is done, the better.

Also, while we're on subject, it was announced today on Lucas Art's Twitter that they are rereleasing several of their games including "The Dig," "FoA," "Last Crusade," and "Loom (Talkie)." They also hinted in some articals that depending on how well the new MI games do, they may completely go back into the adventure game buisness. They said that if these games do well, we may be looking at "Maniac, Day of the Tentacle, and Grim." As far as we know, adventure gaming may be back.

three words: "oh", "my" and "god"

this sounds like some news. maybe the gaming world really did notice that there got to more to a computer game than just an overkill of weapons...

then again, this change of mind may make things harder for fangroups like this... as long as LEC (and others) didnt have an interest in defending their market-position in the adventure genre, they had no interest in getting rid of freeware competitors...
hopefully, im just being pessimistic, and the good things about the return of the adventure will work out, while my fears will prove wrong...!

Like I said on the AGS forums some months ago and like I told you when you dropped by, the latest update on FOA2 was sometimes in early 2006. Jens was drawing backgrounds on a regular basis and keeping us updated and for once the project seemed like it was finally getting off the ground. Then in early 2006 their writers decided to rewrite most of the plot which rendered most of the backgrounds and non-engine related work completly useless. This news was the last we heard on the channel, we did not talk about FOA2 after that. If they are working on the project, they're doing it in their private channel.

thats such a pity... FoA2 was the most promising fan-project in my eyes for quite some time, and the one i wanted finished most. I hope they will get a grip on it though... plot rewrite, most of backgrounds rendered useless... that all sounds like things that can announce a final curtain on fan projects... happened all too often i fear...

still, hope is high..! hope FoY wont take THAT turn (as they gained the status of the "most promising fan-project" for me ages ago...)

I did character design for secret of pandora. We had a Christmas-demo and did release some of my animations. The one in my signature is done by me and was supposed to be the character animation of Indy. I finished almost all animations of Indy, now I'll use them for a new game, maybe.

Someone seems to be working on Secret of Pandora again. But I don't know much more as I'm no longer involved with this game (at least noone contacted me about anything and I'm still listed as a teammember, but I am sure we buried SOP some months ago...). I'm fine with naturally lazy using my webdesign and code and stuff as long as I get credit for my work (same goes for storyideas, you hear me >:( 8) ;D) but that's it for me with SOP.
If there is a release I will play it of course :D

It's not really worth adding to the list but I've just restored an Indy fan-game I was working on when Cyrstal Skull was released. It's a medium-sized, poorly animated spoof adventure but I should have it finished very very soon! Indy is in search of the Crystal Cursor, after Dr. Guzzo explains it could herald great dangers if it falls into the wrong hands!

Using locations from FoA
(http://www.screen7.co.uk/junc/ccursor01.jpg)

And some un-used/possible locations from FoY
(http://www.screen7.co.uk/junc/ccursor02.jpg)

And old inventory items by the original FoY team, and old characters from early builds of FoY. Plus my first attempt in AGS to get FollowCharacter to work a bit ;)

Haha thanks! Well, a lot happened in between. I thought I had transfered it over to the PC I've had with me for the last year, but I copied all but the latest version, so it has sat in a cupboard at my parents house for a year. But I replayed it today, fixed some coding issues and now I want to get it done. And I totally agree with what you say about the Azores location! Although it's "Kos" in this one, it is much more explorable. Understandably anyone who's played FoA will have to distance themselves a little from certain locations, because some places are obviously not places they were in FoA, even though I've used the background... Well it was just for fun, and still is; it got overly delayed but I'll have it ready asap! Thanks for your interest fandango :)
Title: Re: List of Indiana Jones Fan Adventures
Post by: fandango on February 09, 2010, 09:16:18 AM
your welcome, Mark!

SO looking forward for the release of this little gem-to-be. Kos sounds good, too... basically, i think you can sum it up to this: Any Location, that has this earthy, ancient, "mediterranean style flavor" got the potential to be my favourite location in the game... i guess thats partially the reason why i loved FoA so much... any why i also love the other background you posted (actually, loved it from when you guys first posted it in your "how to create FoA style backgrounds" tutorial)

(and, yes, i know the azores are NOT in the mediterranean, but the location in FoA looks it)

any estimation when Crystal Cursor will be released? :D

As I'm the admin of the Call of Thunder forum, it's my duty to tell you that this site (http://www.call-of-thunder.com/forum) is no fake. We are just having some problems with malware but we do our best to correct the problem.
Now the interesting part: I can confirm your hopes for a new Indy fangame. Indiana Jones and the Call of Thunder, it will be a high-quality game in the style of FoA. I don't want to give away too much information on our plans, but just keep watching our forum (and the main website), maybe, in the near future, you'll find further information there ;)

The CoS site has been down for months already. The Shade of Odysseus site has also been down for quite some time. It's not looking good for either game. It's a pity, as I always looked forward to CoS even more than FoY, and Calle seemed so close to finished.

I actually tried contacting the people at FoA2 almost a year ago, and they finally sent a response recently. They said that the project isn't dead, but things are moving very slowly. They said that from time to time, they may post updates.

Crown of Solomon Website seems to be down again....
Last year they said a release 'd be very soon  :'(

And Indiana Jones and the Shade of the Odysseus Webpage is also still down. Anybody got a link to their forums?

I also noticed that the FoA2 Website was slightly updated, they added a Shade of the Odysseus Link. So this means that they're still working on the project.

They said that from time to time, they may post updates.

yes, i too am afraid "that was it" for Crown of Solomon. At best, i'd consider the project in a deep coma - sadly.
Also, Shade of Odysseus seems to have run dry... so far, i consider it "in hibernation"...

FoA2, along with FoY are in my book the two projects most propable to release their work anytime soon... FoY because we all can see theres a - sometimes slow - but persistent progress. FoA2 because they, much like FoY have stood the test of time for too long to just disappear; plus their website has been up pretty much all thru the last 6 or so years (of course, so has FoYs)

As someone who lurked 7 years on their chatroom, I don't envision FOA2 being released anytime soon. I am confident that we'll have our grubby hands on FOY sometimes in the next 5 years but a decade later FOA2 will still be where it has been in the last 7 years. From my experience, the rule is that making a game requires a sisyphean commitment and everyone lose interest after a while, the indie games or fangames that get completed are the exception that proves the rule. I could be wrong, but looking at the way FOA2 has been managed so far, I don't think their fate will be any different from most projects out there.

This has me really excited.  The OP's artwork is stunning-- if I didn't know better, I'd assume it was lifted from FOA, it's so faithful.

Oh I'm not refining their art. It was a one-off rendering as a color-grading, fine tuning example to the artist behind the lovely pieces. I might do a tutorial on this process, one day. It's completely irrelevant to designing and painting an original room from scratch, something Miez far exceeds me at. But the two processes used together can yield very powerful results.

More on the composting process later... :-X

yes, thats the way i understood it... thats what i meant to say: the creators original artwork is great, detailed, lovely, true to the "aire" of the tanis digsite... with your refinements on one of the pics, all the strengths in the original artwork get yet better, while the (few) flaws the pics have are completely made up

Yes, it is as exciting as it is challenging, fandango. As I make dramatic enhancements that might alter the mood of the underlying image, it becomes especially difficult when working with the product of another team member. There's an established trust that must be met and upheld by members of a team, who wish to share work this way. When I came on board this project, a year and three months ago, I came on to assist Nacho with characters. I knew the best way to approach my new role was to divide the tasks on an area of competence basis.

So while Nacho was extraordinarily good at throwing pixels together to form truly colorful and inspiring characters in rapid succession, I knew that I would not be able to mirror this ability, and so I chose to use my abilities as a technical artist to manage his work pipeline and offer assistance to improve the animation pipeline by making sure we had an explicit standardization for things like hierarchal layer naming in Photoshop, placeholders and markers for scale reference, that could be used for many things including a character shadow base that we can apply to every frame of each animation in a character's sprite set. This became largely autonomous and over a short period, Nacho and I were working at twice the capacity with twice the infrastructure beneath us to support our work and allow it to be taken further.

Just how far it went was quite exciting to be a part of, and we could never truly prepare for what we were able to offer each other. The wonders of creative freedom planted roots in many of the things we began in the early development stages, including developing a process for adding directional light to a character for use in rooms with extreme directional lighting conditions such as the bright entrance of a dark cave or a sunbeam shooting through the trees of a mountain. We became so efficient at this, in fact, that within a day we had intuitively managed to relight an entire character sprite set, in a timeframe that would permit a game-wide application of the process.

While forming other valuable character animation techniques (some of these secrets will reveal themselves during the Easter season), I also managed to apply myself to background artwork, maintaining an artistic role from purely technical standpoint, at least to begin with, until Miez became familiar with my work, which then allowed us to join forces, and really become an unstoppable graphics driving force and a pair of passionate creatives.

The artistic processes we now take so well for granted, formed by unique and explicit patterns which were directly proportional to the individual qualities our work carried. It became the seeding ground for a melding of creative personalities. This is an unusual situation, where one artist will make something extremely good, and then another artist will address it by improving visual unification, and to bring a certain look about. This exact workflow is not practical in a commercial environment, however we are perfectionists and we can afford to be so, due to the absence of any strict schedule or budget. As a cooperative and disciplined team, we openly agree amongst ourselves to add things with a flare of conservatism to avoid altering the direction of the original piece of work. We add only what will serve to enhance the message of the original item and stay clear beyond that; Through this understanding of trust, that could never occur in a commercial environment we gain a healthy double-up of artistic discipline and creative brainpower. An average of two critical minds that share new ways to reach the same goals.

It's not a flawless system, however, and it does come with a loud call for checks and balances. For example, I might make a change to an asset that may not bode well with another team member. So we briefly assess where the problem persists, and I move on to adapt my changes into a direction that pleases everybody. After all, nine pairs of well-educated eyes can be largely advantageous over a single pair in a creative environment such as the one we occupy together...

Cheers,
Paul.

For a few months now, I've been aware of a Raiders of the Lost Ark game in production. I never really followed its progress because I didn't care for the art style. Recently, I discovered that the artist has been hard at work redesigning his backgrounds. I must say, they are agreeable. A Spanish demo was released a few days ago, and a translated version is in the works. Here are the two links.

I have to agree, this looks pretty awesome!
But the only problem that we have in the FoA Fanbase is that their are few finished games. To be exact we don't have any games with full length. Every year I saw so much promising projects, but then they suddenly disappeared   :'(

And by the way: I wonder if work on CoS is still continuing? Last year Calle mentioned that it would be released in 2010  :-X
I also hope that FoA 2 isn't completely dead (Including the "side-project")
Title: Re: List of Indiana Jones Fan Adventures

have to completely agree about the status of released full games in the FoA Area... except the mother of all games, FoA itself, no full length game ever made it... yet.

For CoS and FoA2, i have no reliable information, but the persistence of the sites on the web and the (sparse, i'll give that) occurence of the one or the other update on either side, i have the hunch (nothing more, nothing less) that both games are still not lost. as i said, no hard evidence, tho... but why would both AFA and Calle spend the money for their webserver if they didnt at least PLAN to keep going on?

fandango, last I heard (through an email that I believe I posted on these forums a while back,) FoA2 isn't dead, but progress is at a crawling pace (or maybe even a standstill, I forget.) Either way, it's not looking too good.

Calle from CoS posted this on January 13 of this year:

"Yes, I am working with the game again.

However... I will be careful in making any promises this time. When I started this game I was a student without and responsibilities and kids. I've had lots of work the last few years but I have decided to make room for this project as well.

If I notice I won't have the time to finish it I will try and find someone that wants to take over the project. In that case I will send out a mail to all members at this forum as well as posting on the site.

For now, I will add a facebook share button and a twitter button on the homepage for those that are interested in sharing the information about this project

Finally, thanks for the support everyone!"

He hasn't posted about any progress since. He hasn't logged on in about a month and a half. Lastly, the forums are, once again, infested with spam.

I too don't believe that either of these games are dead, as the websites are still being paid for.

I don't think I need to point out that my Revenge of the Ancients iPod HTML game isn't going to happen. I'd appreciate it if rather than mark it as cancelled, you take it and the Curse of the Pharaohs (which was remarkably similar to Staff of Kings) and remove them from the list. I was a bit younger when I made these promises :-[.

why take them off the list? i think they belong in there, after all you spent quite some time with them, being released or not. Nothing bad about cancelling a project (even tho it IS a pity!); whats really bad is not admitting to one self that a project will never be completed. so, please keep them in the list. And to Grim, mind releasing some of the artwork you had for either game? im sure THAT might be interesting :)

If you feel strongly that way, I guess we can keep them. Very little progress was ever made in either game. Naturally, no artwork exists for the Revenge of the Ancients game. A non-interactive demo was released for the Curse of the Pharaohs game. I'll have to consider whether I should link to it here, as it's pretty embarrassing ;). No real artwork was done, only a 5 minute job done in paint so that we could get the feel for AGS. Still, the into was a bit humorous. I think I'll just upload the few line script.

Can't say I am surprised, I saw this coming since 2006 or 07, I forgot, my recollection of the events in chronological order is somewhat hazy but between the weeks, then months, then years without a Fate Of Atlantis II discussion of any kind on their chatroom, the disappearance of most of the team members from said chatroom, the announcement that the whole script was rewritten from scratch (again) and that some assets had thus become useless, it became clearer to me that this project wasn't going to be completed anytime soon, neither in a distant future.

That project I mourned a long time ago.

Now, news about LucasFan's Raiders Of The Lost Ark is something I'd be very interested to hear about as I still believe he and his crew are working on it somewhere.

All objects/items and their positions, same as original concept has been followed accurately. Now it has got taller resolution, so some adjustments were needed. Colors and lighting, same as details and atmosphere are done very well and brings nostalgic feel. Characters are realistic and very accurate to film actors.
The quality, which has been done so far is not like Disney movies or games, it follows Indiana Jones palette and story like we know from FOA and Indiana Jones franchise.

Title: Re: List of Indiana Jones Fan Adventures
Post by: paprik123 on February 25, 2014, 01:28:40 AM
Characters are 3D. Backgrounds are 2D... which makes it 2.5D. 3D characters has been required, because there is gonna be lots of animations.
Well, I have talked to original creators, artists and writers. There were all impressed by the quality, when I showed some WIP shots. They all said, that it might be very difficult to get through the Disney, but we have got great looking demo, which shows 30 min of the gameplay with music, sounds, voice overs etc.
Disney would be against to themselves not to consider make this as a full game. Otherwise, our financial plans doesnt have to cost Disney a penny :o)
I know, all is about money and reputation and this project have very skilled people and instead of let it shut down for any stupid reasons, I would sacrifice the money and finish it on my own.

Um... Germany?  ;)

Are you looking for people with standard German accents or are you looking for stylised Hollywood villain accents? The former would be more realistic but the latter might be more in keeping with the Indiana Jones movies.

miez, maybe split this thread, move the posts about Fate of Atlantis Special Edition (starting this (http://www.miez.nl/yabbse/index.php?topic=1134.msg19954#msg19954)) into its own thread.
This ("List of Indiana Jones Fan Adventures") thread is a fairly general overview/listing, and a separate thread for Fate of Atlantis Special Edition seems justified.

Patrik, what you've created so far looks great, especially considering you started the project only about a year ago (Oct 2013).
I hope in the future native Linux support will somehow be possible. Maybe the Wintermute Engine will be ported, or maybe you'll move to Unity or whatever.

Hey, question, why does the teaser video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwuQbNAGh4s) have so much black on the sides?
The squareness of the footage detracts from its coolness, if you know what I mean. ;)
