I know Fate of Atlantis 2 and Foy are going to be great but what do you all think Indiana Jones And The Spear of Destiny it looks really good is it made by the the Foy team or is it a compltely different team because they are promoting Fountain of youth as well. http://www.theindyexperience.com/fan_game.shtml

Nope, that's a VERY old project, and FoY has nothing to do with it (as far as I know:P) They just have links to fangames, but why they haven't listed FoA2 is a mystery.
Still, that project is.. eh, just a "mirror" of FoA ;D
In my opinion, just copying the graphics like that isn't making a game.

I dissagree with what you said Spear of Destiny is using the Fate of Atlantis game engine just like Fate of Atalantis 2 they still have to use skill to create the game.

AmberfishArts FoA2 are apparently using a storline lucasarts had written for the sequel to FOA. And The and spear of Destiny have written there own story. FOA2 and Spear of destiny they are both entirely diffrent games.

Also if you look in the fan games section on the Spear of destiny website they have included AmberfishArts FoA2 as an Affiliates.

I have got to agree  the Spear of destiny graphics look great reagrdless of it being a copy or not of FOA it is still well worth looking at because I loved FOA and its graphics were awsome.

Although the Indiana Jones character in the Spear of destiny looks much more detailed than the FOA version and the scenery looks hand painted.

FOA2, FOY and Spear of destiny are all great games and I am looking foward to all three of them.

I'm not talking about the game engine, I'm talking about the copying graphics. Yes the graphics are nice, but it's too obvious they've ripped them directly from FoA. Simply mirroring an old picture doesn't count as new graphics.
Whenever I see those screenshots, I literally see FoA1. I say "Hey, why are we in Tikal again?"
FoA2 is a different matter. They use their own backgrounds and story (completely original, no Lec involvement). This creates a different wholeness, and a unique experience - something new.

Btw, I saw two new screenshots of FoY on indyexperience.. has YOke leaked them out?  ;)

I was talking about the two screenshots from Fountain of Youth (FoY), which were previously unknown to me.

It's amazing that Indy Experience have only recently included our game (yet we did tell them a couple of years ago about it) and that they still haven't mentioned FoA2... Still, we're with them now and thats great :D I sent them the extra screen-shots, lol, and that one with all the green lines over it.

Spear Of Destiny is a bit of fun, but as you say the graphics are "ripped". I don't think the project is alive any longer, but its been a while since I spoke with the developer.

I also think the new FOY screenshots on the website I gave look great to, why are the new FOY Screenshots not available on the FOY website because if I had not have mentioned the Indiana Jones Website none of us would have seen them new screenshots. If they are on here I cant find them maybe their exclusive to the indiana Jones experince or somthing.

Also on that website in the FOY screen shot of with Indiana Jones stood in front of a mountain saying I can see right across the south Isle Indiana Jones looks more detailed and graphical exactly like the FOA style Indiana Jones, this is a different looking Indiana Jones character in comparison to the other screen shots of FOY I have seen were he looks allot skinnier. Also the Scenery in the picture looks diffrent FOA and Monkeys Island 2 style hand painted in comparison to the other FOY screen shots we have seen. I understand FOY is using FOA style grapihics but in comparison to to FOA this is the only screenshot I have seen of FOY were it is almost identical to FOA.

hi guys,

I am the one who originally started "Indiana Jones and the Spear of Destiny". We are no longer continuing the game, I am sorry to say.  Let me tell you all a couple of things about it. Originally I  played a 2d adventure point and click game named "Cuthbert PI" . It was fan-made, but I thought it was a lot of fun, and pretty good as well. I just started playing around with the engine (wich is free) and tried to make a classic FOA style display.  My friend got interested too, and so we started. We practically made the whole system, inventory, verbs, rooms, you name it. But because there were only two of us, and we couldn't make backgrounds in the original style. Figuring we could get some support, and maybe people who would be wanting to join, we made a demo, showing off the engine,  featuring FOA backgrounds. We planned to replace every piece with an original one.  We did release it, but very shortly after that,  we got busy in college and private life and put it all on a hold. We lost interest and discontinued everything. Though because we didn't  want all our effort making the engine work lost, we put together a  "Make your own FOA style adventure-in-an-instant" kit. We posted that on theraven.net (a message board from theraider.net).

We hoped maybe somebody else would take a look at the kit, and use our material to make his or her own adventure. I got quite some  replies in the beginning, but as it usually goes, people lost interest...

I've been abroad for 11 months, but keep checking amberfisharts and FoY from time to time, because they aswell go way back, and I'm getting really excited about this demo! And now to see that SoD is mentioned, its just cool!

Mods,  I know there were some 'arguments' back in the old days, but I hope you get a better idea now about certain things. Let's just say you are so lucky with Miez, and leave it. Some things buried are better left alone.

I wish you all good luck with this project, and I am really looking forward playing it!! As for the  "Make your own FOA style adventure-in-an-instant" kit, if someone wants to take a look at it, i think it's buried here somewhere aswell. And for the ones who played the demo, if I remember correctly.  if you recompile the kit, you get some extra content, quite a bit I think. A little FoA style Indy adventure awaits!

Good luck, share the care.

Twq, it's good to hear from you. And it's great to get the lowdown on your game, thanks for sharing. If I sound arrogant then I assure you I'm not trying to be - of course I have no personal problems with the way the graphics were handled, ive got games made with ripped graphics but because of my position I wouldn't put them online. I'll always appreciate what you've done with your game, naturally it has set an example to the fans and developers like myself and the FoY team. Whats also noteable is that I presume you've never heard from Lec? So how come you're not doing more on the game-making front - have you not considered joining the Amberfisharts project?

Drop me an email twq, to mark@barnettcollege.com and I'll ensure you get first dibs on the demo.

(Everyone else can get first dibs too but you've got to tell me why you want it ;))

Hi TWQ,

nice to hear from fellow "Indiana Jones fangame makers" ... too bad the project was never finished. I did play the demo, and I was pretty impressed with it. What engine did you use to make it with?

We used a program named S.L.U.D.G.E.  to create our own interface. Have a look at their website www.hungrysoftware.com, if you are interested. It's basically a adventure making program, I think a lot like AGS, although I never actually tried that.  You're using AGS, right?

btw. You have an impressive portofolio! I checked it out just the other day. Goed werk! It's no suprise the design of this website (and the game from what I can tell) look superb. I  wonder, is there a lot of work for a freelancer like yourself? I am thinking of maybe studing arts myself....
